Heavenly Parenting
For the parents out there..specifically the dads but essentially the message is the same across the board.
Where did you learn to be a dad? Was it watching your own father? Are you an identical image of how is parenting was? Are you the complete opposite? Being a reader on this blog, I would like to think we all share some form of parenting skills that align with our religious morals, but I know that may not have been the case of our, quite literal, forefathers.
Our family is currently going through some stressful times, albeit, not life threatening or the like, but stressful nonetheless. Some of these situations require us to be patient while we wait on other entities to make decisions that we ultimately have no control over. Some of these situations require two children under the age of 6 to remain still, calm, and patient, while mom and dad decide what’s best to do for the family next. As you can imagine, that usually only leads to more stressful times and, unfortunately, but honestly, sometimes that leads me to being rather short with my children in those scenarios.
I may not have the opportunity, or the wherewithal to explain in the moment, but my wife and I try to go back and explain why we said what we said. Phrases such as “I know you couldn’t see the larger picture, but I needed you to do _____ because it was best for you because _____.” Have become a more common saying.
When I speak these words and the like, I feel a strong conviction that this is similar to what our Heavenly Father is trying to tell us, when we feel impatient, throw fits, and just want to know what is the next step. I see, I may have struck a cord with the parents out there!
It doesn’t matter where we learned to be a father, because ultimately the knowledge came from our Father on High. He may give us free will/choice, but he doesn’t let us run all over him and he definitely doesn’t always give us exactly what we want, exactly when we want it.
Just because we think its best for us in the moment, doesn’t mean its best for us in the long run.
No matter where you are in your walk of faith, remember that God has a plan for you and He has not forgotten you. Even in the times of quiet, He is there. Sometimes he may just be telling us to wait.
